QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

21. Why should I choose PAVONE, MORELLO or CASTORO among the many ready-made parquet floors on the market?2023-06-26T14:41:29+02:00

Did you know that PAVONE, MORELLO and CASTORO are the first Croatian parquet brands? And not only that, our brands are recognized in the most demanding Western European and world markets. Our products owe their market success primarily to their high quality and attractiveness. Our parquet collection has been carefully designed by expert staff and follows the latest European and world trends. In the production of parquet, we use only the highest quality materials, and the production takes place under controlled conditions. As part of the POŽGAJ GROUP, there is the oldest and largest Croatian multi-layer parquet factory, which started operating in 2001. year, which speaks in favor of our experience and tradition.
Every parquet board of our parquets is made to last, and that’s why our parquets are among the few with which you get a long-term guarantee. This means that we are confident in the quality of our products and that we readily guarantee their lifetime and your complete satisfaction.
They have won many of their domestic and foreign clients precisely because of the good price-quality ratio, which is why we are recognized on the market. In addition to the quality of the products, we also pay great attention to the quality of the service provided by our professional sales staff – from the first contact and selection of parquet to post-purchase advice and assistance. We are aware that the sales process does not end with the physical handover of the product, but only at the customer’s disposal during the entire lifetime of our parquet floors.

10. Can finished multi-layered parquet floors be laid on underfloor heating?2023-06-26T14:41:13+02:00

Finished multi-layered parquets are the only type of parquet that is recommended for laying on substrates with built-in underfloor heating, since, thanks to their multi-layered structure, they have the ability to conduct heat well. When installing parquet on underfloor heating, it is necessary to follow the rules of a special protocol, which are known to professional parquet installers. In order for parquet on underfloor heating to retain its original properties and appearance even after a long time, it is important not to exceed the maximum permitted temperature of the underfloor heating. The temperature on the surface of the parquet should never be more than 24 C, which corresponds to the usual room temperature of the air in the room.
The reaction of wood to improper use of underfloor heating can be manifested in the formation of larger joints between parquet boards and longitudinal and/or transverse cracking of the cover lamella.

8. How are finished parquet floors installed?2023-06-26T14:41:12+02:00

The installation of finished parquet is simple, fast and clean. Parquet installation is done by gluing to the floor covering, usually with two-component PU (poly-urethane) or one-component elastic (flexible) adhesives based on MS-polymer (modified silanes). The use of water-based glue for multi-layered parquet is not recommended, as it can lead to “swelling” of the parquet due to the absorption of water from the glue. During installation, it is very important to promptly remove the remains of the glue that have reached the surface of the parquet. After installation, the parquet is cleaned of dirt and coated with suitable agents based on parquet wax for additional protection (closing the pores between the parquet planks) and achieving gloss on varnished surfaces. As a rule, it is possible to move into the space 24 hours after laying the finished parquet.

18. Should I choose lacquered or oiled finished parquet?2023-06-26T14:41:12+02:00

Varnish is considered a better means of protecting the wooden surface than oil, however, this is a popular opinion that is not entirely true. Varnished parquet is easier to maintain and care for than oiled parquet. Oil is considered a more natural coating since it is based on natural oils and is therefore healthier. Oiled parquet requires more care and maintenance – it should be periodically treated with protective oil every 1.5-2 years, depending on the frequency of the space.
The repair of damaged varnished parquet usually requires major interventions (sanding and varnishing of the entire surface of the parquet), while oiled parquet can be repaired quite simply and “painlessly” by additional oiling).
Multi-layered and massive parquets of our production can be ordered for delivery also as raw/sanded, i.e. prepared for manual coating, which gives the customer the option of individually choosing a coating (e.g. high-gloss varnish) and treating the parquet (e.g. staining with a color that is not in our standard offer).

6. Are multilayer or solid parquet better?2023-06-26T14:41:11+02:00

Finished multi-layer parquets represent a new generation of parquets, the properties of which are significantly improved compared to solid parquets. Thanks to its multi-layer composition and the mutual “calming” effect of different types of wood, multi-layer parquets react to a lesser extent to the influence of various unfavorable factors from the environment, such as inadequate moisture in the substrate or in the air. Multi-layered parquets retain their original appearance longer, do not dry out and do not form joints as quickly as solid parquets. The multi-layered composition also enables the execution of parquet in large dimensions, in which massive parquets show marked instability. Unlike massive parquets, multilayer parquets can be laid on substrates with built-in underfloor heating, and their installation is quick, clean and cheaper. The most common misconception of laymen is the opinion that massive parquets are harder and more resistant than multi-layered parquets and that they can be repaired several times, because they are thicker and made from one piece of wood. However, all these claims can be easily refuted by the following facts based on scientific and technical experiments from practice:
• the hardness of wood with a thickness of 3-4 mm is identical to the hardness of wood with a thickness of 20 mm
• the resistance of the parquet mainly depends on two factors: the hardness of the wood from which the parquet is made and the type of surface coating
• solid parquet cannot be repaired more times than multi-layer parquet (2-3 times), since otherwise the joint between the parquet planks (grooves and tongues) would loosen.
The superiority of multi-layered parquets over other types of parquets is proven by the fact that in Europe 80% of the total laid parquet surfaces consist of ready-made multi-layered parquets, in which the more developed markets of Western European countries are leading the way.

15. Which type of wood is the best?2023-06-26T14:41:11+02:00

Objectively speaking, although the so-called hard types of wood differ from each other in their hardness, each type of wood, as a natural material, is subject to damage if sufficiently strong pressure is applied to it. Figuratively speaking, if a heavy and/or pointed object falls on the floor, it is very likely that the parquet (surface coating and cover lamella) will be damaged, such as a small dent and/or scratch, regardless of the type of wood the cover lamella is made of. . However, it is still advisable to install hardwood flooring in high-frequency, especially commercial spaces, as it is somewhat more resistant to mechanical damage.
Seen from an aesthetic point of view, interior designers usually recommend installing parquet made of a lighter type of wood in smaller rooms, because it will optically increase the space. Parquet made of darker types of wood, as well as parquet of larger dimensions, fit better in rooms with larger surfaces.
Given that every customer/person has their own developed taste and sense of beauty, the decision about which type of wood is the best choice for your interior is solely up to you. We recommend that you definitely visit the nearest POŽGAJ GROUP showroom (Zagreb, Split, Varaždin), because in this way you will minimize the possibility of making a mistake when choosing and maximize your satisfaction with the purchased parquet.

5. What is the difference between multilayer parquet and laminate or veneered floors?2023-06-26T14:41:10+02:00

Unlike laminate, finished multi-layer parquets are made of real wood. The upper layer of the multi-layered parquet consists of lamellas made of real wood, while the upper layer of the laminate consists of a plastic foil (film) that represents a painted imitation of wood. The upper layer of veneered floors is also made of real wood, but as a rule, it is about 0.6 mm thick, while multi-layer parquet is considered a floor with a 2.5 mm or thicker layer of real wood. It is safe to say that multi-layered parquets represent a more natural and healthy choice for you and your family.
Laminates in the room, due to the uniformly painted structure of the wood, often look unnatural, and the sound of walking on the laminate indicates that it is an artificial material. Multi-layer parquet (cover lamella) can be repaired several times after prolonged use and wear, which restores the parquet to its original beauty and shine, while a worn laminate or veneered floor cannot be repaired, but must be completely replaced with a new floor covering. This is why we can consider finished parquet as a more long-lasting solution than laminate and veneered floors.

13. Why is the finished parquet produced with a slightly rounded edge?2023-06-26T14:41:09+02:00

Certain finished parquets are produced in large formats (dimensions). Thanks to their multi-layered structure, the influence of adverse factors from the environment is significantly reduced, but it is still inevitable that after a long time (especially if the humidity in the air is not adjusted to the recommended value of 45-65%), a smaller degree of “shrinkage” (shrinking) of the wood will occur. In order to make the resulting gap (so-called joint) between parquet boards as less noticeable as possible, we produce parquet in larger formats with a slightly rounded edge (so-called bevel) on all four sides of the parquet as standard.

4. What is the difference between two-layer and three-layer parquet?2023-06-26T14:41:08+02:00

Compared to the two-layer parquet, one more – the third layer – has been added to the three-layer parquet, which has an additional stabilizing function. Namely, in order for the wooden floor boards in larger formats (width from 150 mm upwards) to be sufficiently strong and stable, it is preferable that they be made of 3 layers, i.e. produced in the form of three-layer parquet. Double-layer parquet is usually produced in smaller formats in which the two-layer construction is sufficiently stable.
